Our story began in 1997, when Diego Muñoz Marroquin began the provision of legal services independent with the conviction that the intellectual property would be a fundamental pillar for the development of the business and innovation in Colombia. With time, the growing demand for our services led us to consolidate ourselves in 2001 as Muñoz Abogados, a law firm with a vocation for excellence and a vision of the future clear.
In 2003, Luis Hernando Agudelo joined as a managing partner, marking the start of a new stage of strategic planning and growth. A year later, in 2004, we became the first law firm in colombia, with direct branches in other countries, to expand our international presence. Since then, we have managed affairs in Europe for over two decades, and today, with the presence of our founding partner, Diego Muñoz, in Spain, we are reinforcing our operations in the region and consolidate our partnerships on the continent.
As the legal landscape evolves, we understood the importance of diversifying our areas of practice. In 2008, we stop being a boutique firm to become a firm of general practice. In 2009, we took a key step to incorporate a team specialized in corporate law, foreign trade and the right of the markets, strengthening our ability to provide comprehensive advice to our customers. In 2011, we created the department of public law, and expanded our employment law practice, representing large state organizations, public-private and the telecommunications sector until 2014.
In 2015, we gave a new impetus to our expansion with the linkage of more specialized partners, consolidating a multi-disciplinary team of high level. This commitment to excellence led us to receive in 2016, the recognition of The Chambers Women in Law, Latin America, by fostering work environments that are flexible and innovative programs for mothers. In 2018, we entered with force to the legal market of the medical cannabis, demonstrating our ability to adapt to new industries.
The year 2020 was a key factor in our evolution. We carried out a restructuring comprehensive, optimizing our practice areas, to strengthen the commercial department and investing in digital strategies innovative. We implement schemes to virtual and we stepped up our presence on social networks, which allowed us to remain competitive at national and international level.
In 2021, we were recognized by Leaders League for our outstanding work in disputes between shareholders and in the fight against counterfeiting. In 2022, we strengthened our digital identity and strengthen our presence in digital channels, making it easy to connect with customers and strategic partners. In 2023, we promote new business opportunities and partnerships in Europe, consolidating our expansion with the presence of our founding partner in the region. Also, we launched our service Compliance, providing comprehensive solutions for the legal protection of the enterprises.
2024 has been a year of notable achievements. We were recognized in seven categories of Leaders League: disputes between shareholders, compliance, civil and commercial litigation, compliance and anti-piracy, registration of patents, data protection and registration of trademarks. These awards reflect the hard work of our team and our constant pursuit of excellence. In addition, we continue to strengthen strategic alliances with national and international entities, reaffirming our leadership in the sector.
Today, as we look back, we see a story of growth, adaptation, and constant innovation. In Muñoz Abogados we are still moving forward with the same passion and determination with which we began more than two decades ago, always with the commitment to offering legal solutions with solid, creative, and effective in a world in constant change.
